Dear HEC UK Alumni,

Many of you regularly ask us how they can help HEC Paris - so many ways to support us indeed - thank you to you all - a few examples below:

  • Following the news related to the fire of Amphi Blondeau, the HEC Foundation has launched a campaign, linked to the broader renovation of the Campus. Discover how to participate here.
  • Another way to help is to become a mentor to HEC students during their internships.
  • Finally, thank you to those of you who made introductions to your companies to talk about partnerships or executive education. Our first executive Education programme based in London will take place at the HEC U.K. House in December! And obviously there are plenty of opportunities to share and give back to the community - please contact us if you’d like to discuss! As always, thank you for your support.

November is still busy at the UK House with a panel discussion on CEO activism with our HEC UK Governance Club, a wine tasting with Leoville Barton, a panel on new regulations in the French market with the HEC UK Finance Club, an online blockchain@hec UK conference on Middle East: the new capital of crypto, a Game Premiere with the HEC UK Art Club to unlock your inner artist and a festive Christmas breakfast with the team before the break.

Save the Date for our masterclass with two HEC Professors on Climate change and refugees, and for our upcoming Winter Party: expect an exclusive and glamourous evening!

Kind regards,

Your HEC in the UK Team

Delphine, Laura, Wendy, Marie & Johanna

Every program is overseen by an academic director – an HEC Paris professor who brings the whole program together following consultation with key stakeholders, from participants to C-level executives. Each program is built on such solid foundations, as well as ‘continuous improvement’, which means constantly checking that each session provides the necessary learning outcomes, as well as exceptional opportunities for people to create connections, break silos and explore what is important to the business.

HEC PARIS NEWS

International Climate Negotiations: do they really matter?

Thursday 23rd November - 1:00pm CET - LinkedIn Live

Do international climate negotiations really matter? Throughout their history from the late 20th century to the present, several key milestones have shaped global climate action including the UNFCCC (1992), the Kyoto Protocol (1997) and the Paris Agreement (2015). While these negotiations have faced numerous challenges, from diverging national interests to concerns over equity and fairness, they have undeniably played a pivotal role in raising global awareness and accelerating climate action. But do they truly matter in the grand scheme of things? As we look ahead to COP28, Igor Shishlov, climate policy expert and adjunct lecturer at HEC Paris, will explain the reality and challenges of international climate negotiations.

Your support matters: join HEC new auditorium fundraising campaign!

Since the fire that destroyed the Amphi Blondeau, many of you have come forward. We have been deeply moved by this outpouring of solidarity, and we collectively decided to give this amphitheatre an even more central place at the heart of the campus project, which will start in 2025.

The school has decided to rebuild an 840-seat auditorium, to make it the "heart of the campus", to open it up to the future public spaces of a new iconic building, with greater ambition than was originally planned in the future Campus project. Today, it is no longer just a renovation, but a reinvention!

All of this, of course, is yet to be built, but we have a wonderful opportunity here to make something even more magnificent with everyone's support. HEC alumni and friends, students, your donations are crucial to the school, and even more so in the context of this project, as they will shape the campus of tomorrow. We hope that many of you will participate in this project.

HEC IN THE UK ON FRENCH TV!
Did you recognise the HEC UK House on French TV this weekend? With Delphine in the lobby and 2 Masters students in the lounge upstairs?
Delphine Mourot, the Director of HEC in the UK, was delighted to participate to the interview of Pascal Cagni, the President of Business France, as part of the HEC Interview on BFM Business: "What advice would you give to startups looking to expand internationally?" Discover the answers in the excerpts or the full interview here.

BECOME AN ADVISOR TO GUIDE STUDENTS DURING THEIR INTERNSHIP

In order to respond to the school’s strong desire to further support students during their internship, HEC Talents wishes to expand the community of school advisors for internships - they are looking for additional 150 school advisors by February.

Your main tasks would be to support one or more interns (estimated workload of 1.5 hours per intern) to ensure their internship goes well, to listen to their feedback, to contact the school in case of any issues, and to be a signing party of the internship contract.

If you are interested in this project, please register below. We hope that many of you will join HEC Talents on this growing initiativet!

Private equity and venture capital firms: an AI arms race looms ahead

Though many sectors in finance adopted algorithmic decision-making quite early, venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) were much slower to pick up on artificial intelligence (AI). Thomas Åstebro, Professor of Entrepreneurship at HEC Paris, recently published the Journal of Financial Data Science with Portfolio Management Research (2021), wrote a paper analysing the quickly changing landscapes of AI in PE/VCs. In it, he points out how AI is expected to rapidly transform these sectors in the coming years. . Read more
