Hello everyone,

We are very pleased to announce our next event about - China ! Expert insights, authentic spicy Chinese food and networking of course !

2024 marks the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic ties. Sixty years complete one cycle in the traditional Chinese calendar, bridging the past and the future. The official visit of China's president Xi JingPing to France a couple of days ago highlighted the importance of this relationship.

Today's China frequently stirs up discussion and emotion. Without a doubt its constantly growing economical and political power is indisputable.  At the same time, China is experiencing some an ever increasing challenge, in two fronts: Economic growth and more importantly the state of mind of its new generation.

Trying to make sense of this enormous country with its long and turbulent history is no easy feat.  How do we understand what are the new challenges China is grappling with? and how do they affect china as well as the rest of the world?

We have the honour to invite, Nicolas Riou (HEC 90) expert on China, to share his recent key research - The Rupture and the Hope - with us

Nicolas Riou (Science Po Paris 88 and HEC 90) created Brain Value in 2003, a French leading firm in research and strategic planning specialising in consumer studies. With a team of 50 people, Brain Value joined Ifop Group in 2023,  to conduct studies for major brands such as Chanel, L’Oréal, Clarins, Lacoste, Coty, Renault, Stellantis… in France and in 27 countries.

Nicolas, is also an expert of Chinese consumers and socio-cultural trends. He created Brain Value China in 2016 and provides key research on Chinese market for his clients. He is also the author of numerous publications such as Pub Fiction, and comments on new trends in advertising and postmodern society or Marketing Anatomy (2009). Moreover, he taught marketing  at HEC Paris for 10 years.

An event of China can't go without Chinese food ! The dinner- talk will take place in Malaboom - a Chinese restaurant headed by Patrick El Khoury (HEC 2015). Patrick, was previously a management consultant at Oliver Wyman, but then decided to focus on his passion and love for Sichuan food after spending 2 years in China. In  2021 Patrick created Malaboom, a modern Sichuan restaurant in Paris' 11th arrondissement, specializing in Mala Xiangguo (also known as Dry Hot Pot in the U.S.), aiming to bring the authentic taste of spicy Sichuan food with the premium ingredients.
