HEC PROGRAM WITHIN ChangeNOW 2025, 25th APRIL

  • 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM : On-stage session with François Gemenne"Lessons from the Past: Shaping the Future of International Climate Action"

Venue: Balcony Stage

International cooperation has been jeopardized like never before in recent times. With the United States pulling out of the Paris Agreement and the rise of populism all over the world, the fate of collective action remains more uncertain than ever, as we celebrate the 10 years of the Paris Agreement. Yet this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the international negotiations on climate change, of which the first edition - COP1 - was held in Berlin in 1995. Over those 30 years, there have been ups and downs. Glorious successes, spectacular failures, and a lot of time wasted. Which lessons can we learn from the past failures of international negotiations? How can they help us navigate the turbulent times ahead and set the pace for more successes? This panel shall feature actors who have been directly involved in those negotiations to help decipher what lies ahead and how we can maintain the power of collective action.

PANELISTS:
Paul WATKINSON
Head of the French delegation to the COPs, 2007-2016
