People need food to live but the food we choose to eat can have a significant impact on the planet and out health. Agriculture is the largest cause of global environmental change and is responsible for approximately 30% of global greenhouse emissions. Food waste in the EU is estimated to reach 20% of the total food produced (Eurostat 2018).Italy, the country of the Slow Food movement, proud of its food and farming traditions, is experiencing a boom of innovative solutions making food and agriculture more sustainable. Their vision is to bring flavour to the world without starving its resources.Nicolò Barbano - AgTech Head of Marketing at xFarm. Founded in 2016 in Milan, this agricultural IoT start up helps farmers digitize and quantify their growing crops while promoting sustainable farming methods. It recently raised £3Mio and was shortlisted in 2022 by Fastcompany in their 15 start ups to watch in 2022.Laura Gibertoni- Communication Director and Stop Hunger Ambassador at Sodexo Italy. Sodexo, the global leader in services that improve Quality of Life, has some of most ambitious sustainability goals – from decarbonisation, plant-based menus to its Wastewatch programme and its intelligent waste-measurement technology.Julian Fanara- Country Manager Italy at Phenix. Phenix is the leading start up in the fight against food waste in Europe. It provides manufacturers, retailers, consumers and charities human- and tech-centred solutions to save food waste from the bin.
