Dear HEC Alumni,
The HEC UK Art club is delighted to invite you for a Walking tour in Bermondsey, one of London’s trendiest neighbourhoods. Let’s travel downstream and discover Bermondsey, its tales of river, tanners and hipsters with Muriel Carre, London Blue Badge Guide of the Year 2018.
Walking Tour @ BERMONDSEY: River, Tanners & Hipsters
Saturday 29th January 2022
From 2 to 4 pm
Meeting point: Bermondsey Tube Station. Main exit, just beyond the exit gates.
We shall start downstream with a lovely invigorating walk along the River Thames, then we shall head towards London Bridge. On our way, we will discover one of London’s most exciting areas, its Victorian warehouses, its old religious institutions and social housing, the ever-present river Thames, and the now super trendy shops, restaurants and galleries. Long gone the days when the stench of the tanneries made the air hardly breathable!
Practicalities: Warm, waterproof clothes and comfortable shoes are highly recommended. Even a little hipflask with your favourite beverage might be handy!
Vox Connect: Make sure you have downloaded the Vox Connect free app before the walk. You will also need a well-charged phone and your headsets.
Price: tickets are 25€ for adults, and a special rate for children is available (12€), please contact christina.keo@hecalumni.fr if you would to purchase tickets for children.
Also, taking into account the COVID situation and weather, the HEC UK Art club reserves the rights to cancel or postpone this event.
About Muriel Carre
Muriel was lucky enough to spend her childhood in Africa with her adventure-seeking parents, and then lived in some of the most exciting cities in the world: Paris, Hong-Kong, Tokyo, Madrid and of course London.
While taking her Master’s degree in art history at Christie’s she acquired a first-hand knowledge of art works. Add to this her long experience as a teacher of English literature and English as a foreign language and you’ll understand why she loves sharing her passion for London and its art, architecture and history.
Muriel is also an award-winning London Blue Badge Tourist Guide and is accredited to guide in English and in French. She loves to walk you round London as if it were an open book where William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde and many others give you a nod at every corner. She is always happiest when she can share her London secrets: a small garden tucked away behind some old brick walls, a grand Georgian town house or the latest street art in London’s East End. Her live or virtual tours can transport you almost anywhere and never fail to make your English experience unforgettable.
