Oliver Griffith has been playing professionally for over 40 years, including during his 20 year career as a US diplomat in Africa, South America, and Europe. After studying ethnomusicology and jazz at Wesleyan University, he earned a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. He also studied Jazz at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and classical flute at the Richard Strauss Konservatorium in Munich and, while working as a diplomat, earned a diploma from ENA in Paris.
In his diverse musical career, Oliver Griffith has played with American Singer Mary Wilson & The Supremes, American jazz trumpeter Ted Curson, South American Grammy Award-winning singer Franco de Vita, as well as big bands in Boston, New York, Washington, and Hamburg, including those of George Russell, one of modern jazz's leading composers, and prominent musician Herb Geller. He has led jazz combos in Rwanda, the Central African Republic, Venezuela, Trinidad, Uruguay, Guatemala and France, performed in numerous famed clubs, concert halls, cultural centers, and recorded four CDs.
In Paris, Oliver was Director General of the American Chamber of Commerce (Am Cham-France) and Head of Communications for the World Bank. Since his retirement in 2016, he concentrates fulltime on music, mostly classic jazz, performing with some of France's top musicians.
At our HEC-IPEL Afterwork, just as last year, Oliver will be accompanied by Sylvestre Planchais, one of France’s top guitarists and composer.
Our afterworks are essential networking events for anyone interested in international issues. They're a great opportunity to keep in touch with alumni, develop your network, exchange ideas, meet new people, recruit, talk about your activities, detect potential business convergences, and exchange ideas with other business leaders. They generally take place on the second Tuesday of the month, at the HÔTEL MELIA VENDÔME.
Participation is free and open to all, drinks are at negotiated price : PAY AS YOU DRINK!
We look forward to welcoming you for our Annual HEC-Ivy Plus European Leaders Afterwork at Hôtel Melia Vendôme.
